Residents cast their votes at our Annual General Meeting

Over 100 residents and guests joined us at our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday 26 September.

Thank you to everyone who joined the event – this year’s meeting was a true demonstration of the strength of resident leadership and involvement at Phoenix.

The meeting took place at The Green Man, with 70 resident shareholders voting in person. 20 others voted by proxy in advance of the meeting, with many joining online via the event livestream.

Phoenix Community Housing Chief Executive, Denise Fowler, gave the main speech celebrating the work of residents over the last year and key milestones including a new Customer Services Strategy, moving to a neighbourhood-based Community Links approach, a Resident Involvement and Governance Review which strengthens resident involvement and ensures decisions are informed by diverse resident voices, a review of our complaints process and the launch of a new Complaints Investigation Team.

All resolutions were passed at the meeting, including agreeing the minutes of the previous AGM, agreeing the financial statements, and agreeing the re-appointment of the external auditors.

Residents also took part in a question time session with the Executive Team. The lively conversations covered topics including repairs performance, RAAC, package mailboxes and fly tipping.

The meeting marks the last AGM for Phoenix’s Vice Chair, Simon Barlow, who will be stepping down from the role after four years on the Board and two years as Vice Chair.

Although Simon is stepping down, his commitment to resident involvement remains as he will remain a member of the Phoenix Resident Experience Committee, as a Vice Chair and also on the Phoenix Gateway.

Carmen Simpson, tenant and Chair of Phoenix, said: “Simon is a valuable asset to the Phoenix Board and a great to support to me as Chair – I’m often calling him with questions. We will miss him on the Board, but I know he will continue to have a positive impact as an involved resident.”

As a thank you for taking part in our AGM, all resident shareholders who attended in person or voted by proxy were entered into a prize draw. Congratulations to the prize winners.

We’re resident-led and there will be more opportunities throughout the year for residents to have their say. Residents can get involved by becoming a shareholding member, joining one of our resident groups or by attending one of our events.
