The Phoenix Academy is our 'school of social housing'.
Set up in 2014, the academy aims to encourage more residents to become involved with Phoenix and potentially take up future positions on our resident-led Board.
Of the nearly 180 previous graduates of the Academy, five have become Phoenix Board Members, others have joined the Resident Scrutiny Panel, and more are involved at all levels of governance.
In 2019, 42 people graduated from its Level 1 and Level 2 courses - and the academy welcomed its first intake on its Level 3 offering.
The Level 1 course is where the Phoenix Academy, our school of social housing, began. In 2018, it became the first of its kind to be officially accredited by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH).
The course - which is delivered by Phoenix staff and residents - focuses on the history of social housing, asset management, housing finance, models of governance and more. The academy is fully accessible and takes place one weekday evening a week over nine weeks.
The course is free for Phoenix residents and £30 per session for non-residents (or £20 per session if you commit to the whole programme).
"I found the Level 1 to be very informative and each lesson left me wanting to go and find out more on the topic we had covered, the tutors were patient and welcoming for all levels of understanding. The commitment of the tutors and the delivery of each element was enthralling and encouraged attention from us all. I have put myself forward for level 2 and cannot wait to get started!"

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Phoenix Community Housing for providing the Phoenix Academy open to all the community. I thoroughly enjoyed the level 1 course, it was a fantastic insight into social housing and a great stepping stone to becoming more involved. A truly passionate group of people that will leave you inspired for not only your personal journey but that of the community in which you live."
