The Phoenix Academy is our 'school of social housing'.
Set up in 2014, the academy aims to encourage more residents to become involved with Phoenix and potentially take up future positions on our resident-led Board.
Of the nearly 180 previous graduates of the Academy, five have become Phoenix Board Members, others have joined the Resident Scrutiny Panel, and more are involved at all levels of governance.
In 2019, 42 people graduated from its Level 1 and Level 2 courses - and the academy welcomed its first intake on its Level 3 offering.
The course - which is delivered by Phoenix staff and residents - focuses on the history of social housing, asset management, housing finance, models of governance and more. The academy is fully accessible and takes place one weekday evening a week over nine weeks.
In 2018, it became the first of its kind to receive official accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH).
The course is free for Phoenix residents and £30 per session for non-residents (or £20 per session if you commit to the whole programme).
The Level 2 course from the Phoenix Academy is a good next step for those looking to find out more or take the next step to a career in housing.
Taught at The Green Man community hub, you will gain a more in-depth understanding of housing associations and their work alongside Phoenix residents and staff, with support from a professional tutor and mentoring from Phoenix Community Housing staff.
This course focuses on the following topics:
As of October 2019, we now offer Level 3 qualifications for those looking to begin or further their career in housing.
