Resident shareholders have their say at AGM

Updated: 21 September 2022 at 15:36pm

Over 100 resident shareholders, staff and partners joined us on Tuesday 20 September to have their say at this year’s annual general meeting (AGM).

The meeting took place at The Green Man, with 60 residents joining in person and others participating virtually via a livestream and proxy votes.

Carmen Simpson, tenant and Chair of Phoenix Community Housing, who opened the meeting, said: “This was my first AGM as Chair of Phoenix and I’m proud to have seen residents, old and new, joining to give their views. I am very passionate about residents having their say on their homes and communities. We should always want to do better for everyone.”

The AGM was a chance for residents to see and hear from our new Chair, Carmen Simpson, and Chief Executive, Denise Fowler who was the guest speaker for the evening. Denise praised the contribution of those who had founded Phoenix and outlined in her speech how the Governance Review and Customer Services Strategy will ensure we build on Phoenix’s past achievements continue to deliver for residents in the future.

Residents approved the minutes of the last AGM, accepted the financial statements, the annual report and approved the re-appointment of KPMG as our external auditor.

Residents also took part in a question time session with the Executive Team. Questions ranged from fly tipping, to energy advice and support for residents during the cost of living crisis.

Denise Fowler, Chief Executive of Phoenix Community Housing, said: “It was fantastic to see so many residents using their voice to hold us to account at this year’s AGM. Phoenix is special. I’ve never felt more welcomed or more challenged as a Chief Executive. We have lots of feedback and suggestions and will use these to continue to work with residents to build a better future for our Phoenix community.”

The evening ended with food, dancing and music provided by Community Chest funded project Silver Singers.

As a thank you for taking part in our AGM, all resident shareholders who attended in person or voted by proxy were entered into a prize draw. Congratulations to the prize winners.

We’re resident-led and there will be more opportunities throughout the year for residents to have their say. Residents can get involved by becoming a shareholding member or by attending one of our events.
