Our proposals for new homes in Bellingham – consultation now open

Updated: 13 August 2020 at 16:55pm

This consultation has now closed. Thank you to everyone who took part.

There is a major shortage of affordable housing in Lewisham and Bromley, across London and other parts of the country. Phoenix Community Housing is committed to tackling this problem by building new, high-quality homes.

As a resident-led and community-based housing association, we want to involve neighbours and the broader community whenever we develop plans to build new homes, and community as we develop  build new homes to help ease this crisis and believe the best results are achieved when residents and staff work together.

We have developed proposals for 24 new affordable homes in Bellingham and are inviting neighbouring residents to give their views on these proposals.

We value the views and contributions of local residents and will work to ensure your feedback is considered in our proposals before we submit a planning application to Lewisham Council later this year.

About our proposals

We’ve developed proposals to build 24 new affordable homes for rent on land behind existing properties at 56-50 Farmstead Road, in Bellingham SE6 and the railway line. If our plans are approved, these properties will need to be demolished in order to access the site.

We began consultation with affected residents in 2018 and launched a broader consultation with local residents in June 2019 after appointing architects Metropolitan Workshop to develop our proposals. Neighbours gave their views at our Chat and Chips event and the feedback from this consultation has shaped the proposals that we are sharing with residents now.

This has included responding to concerns that some residents raised about the impact the new homes may have to the community (including an increase in parking, bins on the street, a loss of green space, the new buildings not fitting with the surroundings and a potential for antisocial behaviour).

Resident consultation - give us your views

We have written to neighbouring residents to share our proposals and have invited their feedback and questions as part of this consultation. You can take part in this consultation online by reviewing the architect’s information sheet and our introductory letter and by completing this online form by Friday 4 September 2020.

If you would like to talk to someone about the proposals either by telephone or in person, please contact us and ask to speak to the Development Team.

We intend to submit our proposals to Lewisham Council for planning permission in autumn 2020.
