New members join resident-led steering group

The Phoenix Gateway Committee (PGC) has met virtually to welcome new resident and staff members.

The PGC is a resident-led group that meets regularly with staff and residents to help steer our projects and events. The group provides a grassroots perspective and helps our team shape events and projects including the Community Chest and the Phoenix Festival.

The PGC also supports the work of our other resident-led panels, helping to shape decisions and policies that are then taken to our Board.

Following open applications at the beginning of the year, 10 residents and two members of staff have joined the panel and taken part in their first meeting earlier this summer. Resident Board members also sit on the PGC to advise and listen to discussions to help shape decisions further.

Sandra Alexis, a Phoenix homeowner and new member of the panel, said: "I believe it is of great importance to understand where you live in order to improve the health, wealth, education and wellbeing of your community. I decided to get involved, to make a difference in my community by encouraging others to engage with what’s going on. I achieved my latest job with the help of Phoenix’s Job Club which offers a wide variety opportunities for the community working in partnership with different organisations to provide support for residents."

Two members of staff have also joined the panel. Samuel Asamoah, who supports residents during planned maintenance works, and Ben Moss, a member of our Grounds Maintenance service, will take part in discussions and shape decisions alongside residents.

The PGC is just one of Phoenix Community Housing's involvement groups, with other ways to get involved including our nationally-recognised Resident Scrutiny Panel and Policy Working Groups. Our involvement groups will continue to meet virtually and offer other opportunities for residents to get involved in ways that suit them.

If you’d like to get involved with Phoenix, we’d love to hear from you. We have opportunities for residents - tenants and homeowners - of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs to get involved and help shape our community.
