Helpful tips for colder months

Updated: 6 October 2023 at 11:45am

The winter months is the busiest time for our repairs team, so now is the time to plan for the colder months and get your home ready before the temperature drops.

it's important to us that you have a safe, warm, and comfortable home, so we’ve prepared some helpful tips so that you and your family can stay warm all winter - from testing your heating to reducing damp and mould.

  • Test your heating systems to make sure these are working correctly. You can do this simply by switching on your boiler and letting it run for 20 minutes to make sure all your radiators are getting warm, your water runs hot, and there are no signs of leaks or stains from pipework.
  • Make sure the ventilation systems in your kitchen and bathroom is working correctly
  • Wipe down surfaces affected by condensation regularly to prevent mould growth
  • Open the windows to let the moisture out if you’re drying clothes indoors

To help you get ready for winter, we’ve put together a video to help prevent damp and mould – a common issue that happens during winter. You can watch it below

In the run up to the winter months, we are working with HealthyHomes to do comprehensive mould assessment of homes at risk of damp and mould. An assessment will include:

  • Adjusting your heating and hot water systems to operate efficiently.
  • Report repairs that are directly influencing mould growth.
  • Advice on how to keep your home mould free.
  • Clean and shield to treat the mould in your home.
  •  Installing a HealthyHomes Sensor

If you have any questions about how to spot damp and mould, we have created a handy leaflet, some FAQs and a resident information sheet. If you need to report a repair to us or to report damp and mould, please contact us on 0800 0285 700.
