Phoenix Community Housing's Community Chest gives out £100,000 each year to projects that will benefit and bring new opportunities to our residents and the community.
The projects applying for a share worth up to £20,000 are decided through a vote of all tenants. Nine projects have been shortlisted in 2020, with voting open now and closing at 12noon on Friday 26 June.
Brent Knoll and Watergate Holiday Activity - £20,000
Lockdown during COVID19 has given everyone an insight into the isolation faced by children with SEND and their families. With strangers ready to condemn behaviour seen as “abnormal”, public playgrounds have always been tricky to negotiate. Poor communication skills mean our children aren’t able to maintain those on-line friendships on which we are all increasingly dependent. Operational throughout the pandemic, with your help we can safely deliver 10 days of holiday activities for around 50 children between both school sites, improving communication and social skills through sensory activities, cooking, music, creativity and sport (former pupils volunteering as football coaches).
Career Progression - £18,120
VOTE TODAY to extend the Career Progression Programme for another year to support an average 140 residents overcome financial hardship and low pay. Residents can access FREE training, CV support, application writing and apply for well paid jobs/traineeships and Apprenticeships to increase their income. Due to COVID -19 residents face reduction in pay and unemployment affecting their mental health and wellbeing. We will tackle when working closely with families on a 1:1 securing better paid roles suitable to their needs.
