Working together for Gas Safety Week at Phoenix

Updated: 16 September 2019 at 10:20am

We’re proud to continue to promote how important gas safety awareness is to keep you, your family and your neighbours safe during Gas Safety Week (16-22 September).

We work closely with residents and partners to maintain gas safety in all of our properties, and we’re very proud to consistently ensure that all of our homes have a valid gas safety certificate.

This success is in large part thanks to the efforts of our residents to help us keep appointments, offer us access first time to carry out checks, and to ensure appliances aren’t obstructed.

Around 70% of residents allow us to access their homes on the first appointment. This makes a big difference in not only allowing us to carry out safety inspections, but also saves us time and money that can be better spent elsewhere.

However, around 1000 properties per year often need up to four visits before residents allow us into their homes, which can slow down our efforts to ensure all our homes are safe.

To help us keep your home safe, please tell us how we can work with you to carry out safety inspections. Fill in our survey by Friday 27 September to have your say.

As residents you can contribute to ensure a gas-safe Phoenix community by:

  • Allowing access for your gas safety check
  • Ensuring you test your carbon monoxide alarm regularly and report any faults to us
  • Ensuring you do not remove or damage your carbon monoxide alarm
  • If your alarm activates, call us immediately
  • If you smell gas within your home, report it immediately to the National Gas Emergency on 0800 1111 999
  • Keep your personal gas appliance in good condition and have them checked and tested regularly
  • Do not allow unqualified people to fit or work on your gas appliances
  • Make sure your boiler flue is not blocked, covered or damaged
  • If you have any concerns about your gas boiler, report it to use so we can inspect and ensure you are safe

Thank you for your continued support to keep our community safe. If you have any questions about our work to keep residents safe, please contact us.

Don't forget: fill in our survey to tell us how we can work better with you to keep our community safe.
