Gas Safety Week: Every check counts

Gas Safety Week is an annual campaign, taking place from the 9 -15  September, to raise awareness of gas safety and educate everyone on the importance of taking care of your gas appliances.

The theme for this year is ‘Checking - Every Check Counts.’ From checking your appliances to checking that you know what to do in a gas emergency. Every check (no matter how big or small) helps to keep you safe.

How can you help us with a Gas Safety Check?

To help us keep everyone safe in your home and building, we regularly undertake gas safety checks for our tenants.

If you are due a gas safety check, we'll get in touch 6-8 weeks before your gas check to set up an appointment time that suits you. It’s important to allow access for your gas safety check. If you have any questions or need to reschedule, just contact us. And remember, if you ever have any worries or questions between gas checks, we're here to help.

Did You know?

Badly fitted and poorly serviced gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, and carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide poisoning is a highly poisonous gas that can be fatal, as you cannot see it, taste it, or smell it.

If you smell gas in your home, here are four things you can do

  • Open all windows and doors.
  • Put out any lit candles and turn off any flamed gas knobs.
  • Do not touch any electrical appliances.
  • Leave your home and call National Grid on 0800 111 999.
