Phoenix Community Housing tenants can now vote for the community projects they want to win a share of £100,000!
Since being set up in 2013, Phoenix's Community Chest has given out £700,000 to 70 projects, benefitting 21,000 people. Projects funded in previous years range from workshops in schools to tackle gang violence to holiday clubs for young people who are carers for friends or family members.
The Community Chest is decided by our residents. With small grants (up to £2,500) and shortlisted large grants (worth up to £20,000) decided by a resident-led panel, a vote of all tenants then determines who wins a large grant.
Simon Barlow, a resident Board member and member of the resident-led panel, explains why he thinks it's so important residents have their say in the Community Chest.
Residents can vote online, by telephone (0800 0285 700), or by returning a form they will receive in the post. This year, all projects have created a short video explaining why they deserve your vote and you can view them all here.
The shortlisted projects are:
Anne McGurk, Chair of Phoenix and a tenant, said: "The Community Chest is unique because it’s decided entirely by Phoenix tenants. All the projects deserve support so I urge you to vote. Take a few moments to look over what each project proposes – make your decision as to what is most needed in the community.
Be involved, have your say, make a difference. We can’t be together today – but we will come together when this crisis is over as a stronger and more involved community. Thank you."
Voting is open online and by telephone until 12noon on Friday 26 June. Anyone voting by post needs to ensure their form reaches The Green Man by Thursday 25 June.
