Shareholders cast their vote at our 9th Annual General Meeting

Updated: 8 September 2016 at 09:33am

Thank you to all shareholding residents who joined us at our 9th AGM.

The meeting at The Green Man on Tuesday 6 September was an opportunity to reflect on all that has happened at Phoenix over the past year and confirmed the election of three resident Board Members.

Jim Ripley, Chief Executive of Phoenix Community Housing, and our guest speaker Lewisham East MP Heidi Alexander thanked Pat Fordham MBE on her final AGM as our resident Chair.

Tributes were also paid to our former Vice Chair David Cummins, who stepped down from the Board earlier this year due to ill health.

Attendees at the AGM heard that Phoenix remains committed to having tenants as Chair and Vice Chair of the Board. An announcement is expected following our next Board meeting later in September.

The meeting confirmed the election of Michael Boniface, Carmen Simpson and Peter Lewis as resident Board Members, along with the appointment of Jamie Carswell as an independent Board Member.

The following resolutions were also carried:

  • Agree the minutes of the previous Annual General Meeting
  • Receive the Annual Report
  • Receive the Financial Statements and the report of the Auditors for the year ended 31 March 2016
  • Agree to the reappointment of Nexia Smith & Williamson as our external auditors.

All Phoenix Community Housing residents who are shareholding members are able to vote at our AGM. Find out more about becoming a member.

Ahead of the AGM residents had the chance to find out more about what's happening at Phoenix and opportunities to get involved.

“It’s good to learn more about the different things and discussions going on at Phoenix, such as the Fellowship Inn and treating carbon monoxide.” Cathy Pound

“The AGM is well organised and informative. I have learned lots about Phoenix and everyone is very friendly.” Heather Williamson

“I’ve been here since the beginning and think it’s nice and really nicely done. I was with Lewisham and am now with Phoenix so have been a resident for 35 years. I’ve been line dancing here at one of the other Phoenix events and I think it’s really nice.” Maryann Collett

Our guest speaker, Lewisham East MP Heidi Alexander, spoke about some of the housing challenges in Lewisham and beyond.
