Phoenix celebrates 13 years of building better communities

Updated: 15 December 2020 at 14:04pm

This month, we marked 13 years since we were formed in 2007. To celebrate, here are 13 things that make Phoenix, Phoenix.

  • Phoenix is known for its community events, with the Phoenix Festival becoming the highlight in our events calendar. This year we were unable to hold our annual festival, but we hope to do so in 2021. Keep an eye out for more information

  • This month, we announced that we are in talks with L&Q on the potential transfer of hundreds of homes in Grove Park to our management and ownership. The plan to transfer just under 1,500 homes means that we can introduce our unique model to more residents.

  • Since 2007, we have continued to deliver our initial promises to residents, which includes encouraging all residents to get involved with Phoenix to influence services and future priorities. As well as this, we have continued to make sure every home is decent for our residents to live in.

  • We're proud to be part of the Lewisham apprenticeships, which means we can offer apprenticeships to Lewisham residents. Now more than ever, we know that Covid-19 is having a real impact on the livelihoods of Lewisham residents, it’s more important than ever that we do all we can to offer this kind of opportunity to support more people into employment.

  • Our Community Chest was set up in 2013 to fund projects that will make a difference to the Phoenix community. Since then, we have awarded £700,000 to more than 70 projects, benefitting more than 21,000 people. Applications open again in January 2021.

  • Since 2007, our Community Gateway model has not only helped us keep our resident at the heart of everything that we do, but it’s also helped us gain a number of awards – from Tpas Awards. Lifetime achievement award to RIBA London Award.

  • We are proud to be acknowledged as one of the UK best employers by achieving Investors in People Gold. The accreditation highlights that we are one of the UK's best employers.

  • We’re a member of the National Building Safety Best Practice Group, which aims to develop best practice in resident engagement; influence policy development and foster culture change specifically on building safety issues.

  • Providing much needed homes for our community is one of our goals, which is why we have committed to building much needed new homes

  • We want The Green Man to be the focal point for our neighbourhood. It is home to a community café, training kitchen, credit union branch and office space for Phoenix Community Housing.

  • We have remained resident-led since the beginning when a group of residents founded Phoenix for residents. Here’s to many more years!
