Five projects that will bring life-changing experiences to our residents have been awarded grants of up to £20,000 each in this year’s Community Chest.
Following the highest ever number of votes by tenants, five projects have received large grants from our annual fund for projects that benefit our community.
We’ll be working closely with the winning projects to fund things like holiday clubs for children with learning difficulties, healthy living classes for older people, and fun activities for young carers, among other projects.
The grants follow earlier a series of small grants to five Lewisham projects earlier this month, including ones to improve health and wellbeing in south Lewisham and arts projects in the community.
Pat Crawford, former tenant Board member, said: “I would like to congratulate the five winners of the large grant funding as they are all worthy causes and wish them luck with their projects.”
Ivona Huszcza, Young Carers Programme Manager at Carers Lewisham, said: “We are incredibly grateful to all the tenants who voted for our holiday club. These funds are critical to ensuring that our young carers get a much deserved respite from their responsibilities at home during the term breaks. The Holiday Club allows them to have fun and meet other young carers during our activities, giving them time to just focus on their own needs.”
Jim Ripley, Chief Executive of Phoenix Community Housing, said: “Between these projects, they will provide fun, safe, joy-filled spaces for young people over the school summer holidays. They’ll help carers, old and young, to take a much-deserved break and enjoy themselves, and they’ll create many happy memories."
Every year our Community Chest makes a difference to our residents and our community. The projects competing for funding this year were, as ever, of exceptional quality and we look forward to working with them to continue to put smiles on our residents’ faces and build a brighter future for our community.”

Our annual Community Chest awards £100,000 to projects that benefit our community every year. Since it was set up at the request of tenants in 2013, it’s awarded over £600,000 to more than 60 projects, benefitting 14,000 people, based on tenants' votes.
