Building a better community together with Lewisham's young people

Updated: 4 November 2019 at 09:00am

We’re committed to creating a sustainable future for our community in Lewisham – that’s why we’re supporting our young people raise their voices.

As part of Youth Work Week, we’re sharing stories from our youth empowerment group, #BEin.

Since being set up last year, #BEin (formerly known as Phoenix Futures) has attended workshops on everything from healthy cooking to public speaking to marketing and events. The group even organised Lewisham’s first ever youth festival that was organised by young people themselves.

Over the last year, our team has invested and volunteered their time with young people who are part of the group, which is made up of both Phoenix residents and others from the London Borough of Lewisham. And in that year the young people have made significant steps forward in their personal and professional development.

One person that’s been with the group since the very start is Phoenix resident Zhane, who earlier this year wrote for our resident newsletter the Phoenix Flyer.

Zhane told us: “Being part of this project has been a real eye opener for me. It is important to have different people in a group to see where other people are coming from.”

Pop over to our YouTube channel or keep an eye on our Twitter this week (@phoenixtogether) as we’ll be sharing videos from the group.
