A big summer of fun for families this year

A big thank you to all those that made it to Summer Fun this year. Over 1000 children and adults enjoyed days out full of face-painting, mini-golf, archery, climbing walls and a zoo full of creepy crawlies and scaly spectacles.

This year we held five fantastic free summer events all over the Phoenix area in July and August. Events took place at The Dumps Adventure Playground, Scarlet Road, Reigate Road, Bellingham Green and at the newly reopened Beckenham Place Park.

This year Summer Fun also benefited from a £2000 donation from the Tesco Bags of Help programme, as voted for by local Lewisham residents.

Phoenix resident Donna Barlow said: “I’ve been to every Summer Fun this year! It’s been great there is somewhere free to take the kids that means they aren’t sitting indoors playing on the computer. They’ve really enjoyed the animals, balloons and the arts and crafts."

Anne McGurk, tenant and Chair of the Phoenix Board, said: “Summer Fun events make me wish I was a child again! These community events bring people together for pleasure - a chance to make new friends, meet the neighbours, have fun. The more opportunities we have to laugh together the stronger our communities become.”

We’ve not forgotten the adults this year either. Our annual consultation event, Chat and Chips, has been touring our estates all summer, with Phoenix staff eager to hear from our residents about their homes and neighbourhoods. There is still time to catch the last two events, in Gareth Grove and Beckenham Hill if you have missed out so far.

Look out for more family-friendly Phoenix events like Diversity Day and Community Links over the coming months.
