Phoenix Community Housing provides free energy saving advice to help our residents cut their winter energy bills

Big Energy Saving Week at Phoenix Community Housing

Updated: 20 January 2020 at 09:00am

We’re on a quest to cut residents’ energy bills.

Sharon O’Connor, our Energy Champion and a Phoenix leaseholder, is visiting public venues across Lewisham and Bromley to help our residents and our neighbours make big savings and reduce their carbon footprint.

Sharon, who hosts our Energy Advice Café every Tuesday and Wednesday between 10am and 1pm, will be doing extended visits to five venues that our residents and wider community visit as part of the Big Energy Saving Week.

Sharon will give residents advice on how and when to switch energy suppliers, how to apply for grants that could be worth hundreds or even thousands of pounds, and how to reduce energy use in the home.

Sharon  said: “We want people to stop spending too much on their bills and instead spend your money on the things you want. I’m here to help people claim everything they’re entitled to, but it’s also more than that. Heating and your health are so closely linked: by helping people more comfortably turn their heating on, we can make a difference to their physical and mental health.”

Sharon has worked for Phoenix Community Housing as our Energy Champion for three years. In those three years, she has helped hundreds of people save on their bills – with some residents saving thousands through her support and advice.

The drop-in sessions as part of Big Energy Saving Week will be held between 10am and 4pm. With all members of the public welcome, Sharon will visit:

  • Monday: Downham Leisure Centre (BR1 5EP)
  • Tuesday: The Green Man (SE6 2RP)
  • Wednesday: Goldsmiths Community Centre (SE6 1QD)
  • Thursday: Forest Hill Jobcentre Plus (SE23 3XU)
  • Friday: Bromley Jobcentre Plus (BR1 1NX)

Big Energy Saving Week is an annual event, organised by Citizen’s Advice, to promote the benefits households can gain from making simple steps to save on their energy bills.
