It’s time to get your gardening gloves on, perk up your pansies and fluff up that fern! Our annual gardening competition - Phoenix in Bloom – is celebrating its 10th birthday and this year it’s back in person!
There are prizes to be won whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out. Your entry doesn’t have to be something out of Gardener’s World, it just has to make our small corner of SE London a bit more beautiful.
You don’t even have to have a garden! You can enter a blooming balcony, windswept windowsill or communal green space too.

Taking part is easy, all you have to do is fill in this quick online entry form. You can also download and print the application form here. Entries close at 5pm Monday 16 August.
Don’t worry if you’re not ready to enter this year. Now is the perfect time to start planting for next year’s competition. You can buy pots, seeds and compost cheaply at big supermarkets and other local retailers.
You don’t even need any specialist tools. You can use ordinary scissors to trim plants and use your hands to make holes for seeds and plant seedlings. Register now for most improved garden 2022 – just make sure to take some ‘before’ pictures.
